Quality assurance in the automated production of photovoltaic modules
28.01.2011 Optical inspection and measurement of solar modules with KUKA String Test
Augsburg, January 2011 (dg) - Augsburg-based automation specialist and systems integrator KUKA Systems GmbH will again this year have its own stand at what is Asia"s biggest trade fair for the photovoltaic industry. In Shanghai the company, which already has a presence on the ground in China in the form of a subsidiary, will be showcasing in-house products and solutions aimed at enhancing quality assurance in the automated production of photovoltaic modules from 22 to 24 January 2011. The product range at the fair will be rounded off by process equipment and automated system solutions for wafer production.
KUKA Systems @ SNEC PV Expo 2011 (www.snec.org.cn):
22 to 24 February 2011 | Shanghai, P.R. China
Hall E7, Stand 570
The KUKA String Test is particularly recommended for automated production, where it can enhance the quality and output of the modules produced. A camera system is used to measure the strings, check the position of the bus bars and give the cells a final inspection. This ensures that the robot positions the string optimally and that faulty parts are segregated for manual reworking.
An optional EL (electroluminescence) test reveals cracks (known as micro cracks) and functionally inefficient areas of the solar cells. The procedure takes between 8 and 20 seconds, depending on the scope of the test and the string size, at the end of which a clear quality analysis is available. In cell strings that have passed the test, the connecting strands are cut to size for the relevant deposition position in readiness for the subsequent process step, cross-soldering.
